When I was younger, my uncle gave us our first family computer, the Commodore 64. A very capable 8-bit system at the time, this computer allowed me a first look at a programming language called BASIC. Even though all I had known how to do was print the words “Hello World” to the screen, this was pretty amazing to me as a kid. The thought of getting the computer to do what I wanted simply by typing enticed me.
A few years later when I was 15, I joined a gaming group, where I began designing websites and scripting in PHP. I remember countless nights staying up late figuring out how to install WordPress, Joomla, and phpBB forums. It was not until my early twenties that I began branching out to other programming languages, object-oriented paradigms, and newer technologies.
It is hard to believe how much technology has advanced and how it continues to expand every day at an astounding rate. This industry constantly challenges who I aspire to be as a developer, while continuously adding to my skills, and building solutions that make life easier and more productive for those around me.
I have spent the last 7 years working full time as a web developer and IT consultant for a small event management company and IT consulting firm, where I helped to improve the company websites using WordPress, HTML/CSS, PHP, and MySQL. While at Plus Consulting, I developed a contract management system for a client that utilized SharePoint Online, Power Automate, Power Apps, and the DocuSign API to automate, track and streamline their company contracts.
